So as it’s pancake day today, I think it’s only right that encourage you to go all out and
indulge, and get in the Shrove Tuesday spirit.
But, of course I have to give you the healthy options
But first a little history lesson
Are you sitting comfortably?
As you may know ‘shove’ comes from the meaning ‘shrive’ which historically means absolution for sins by doing penance.
The idea being that it is a Christian tradition which involved Christians going to confession where they admit their sins to a priest and ask for absolution.
A bell known as the ‘Pancake bell’ would be used and rung to call them to confession
Pancake Day itself was a tradition that started in years to follow as a way of using up rich and fatty foods like milk, sugar and eggs, before the 40 days of fasting over lent began.

Now that you know ‘why’ you are eating pancakes,
I’ve got some awesome variations of pancake toppings (all healthy of course… well kinda) that you can try out later today.

Nutritious and Healthy Pancakes
1. Egg & Avocado
This option will pack you pancake with a great supply of protein. Using 2 scrambled eggs and half a sliced Avocado, you’ll have pancake of healthy fats proteins.
2. Banana-Nut Hot Cakes
Grab a banana, slice it up sprinkle with some vanilla extract, and top your pancake with a handful of your favorite chopped nuts—walnuts and pecans nuts. You’ll like this one as it offer some great range of minerals and vitamins
3. Chevre & Spinach
If you prefer savoury pancakes as opposed to sweet, then this blend of low-fat goat’s milk cheese and fresh baby spinach could be the one for you.
4. Mixed Berry Puree
I think this on is on my top 3 of favourites. Use a mix of Fresh blueberry and raspberry and blackberry or just one. Put them in a blender and add a little honey and pour over your pancake and enjoy!
5. Almond Butter and Bananas
Choose a nut butter like almond or peanut. Spread over you pancake and then add you sliced banana.
Ok you can stop drooling now
You can try out 1 or 2 of these options later today if you like
